PERFECT LOVE

1975 Vagabond Ketch

COMPLETELY REFIT in 2016

Complete Refit.... EVERYTHING was replaced or rebuilt between 2009 and 2017; only the original 1975 fiberglass hull and deck remained intact. The Vagabond 47 was designed by William Garden as a long-keel offshore cruiser and built of heavy, hand-laid fiberglass, a popular method in the 1970s.

PERFECT LOVE was built by Blue Water Yacht Builders Limited of Taiwan in 1975. The previous owner purchased the vessel as a derelict in 2008 and brought her to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she was stored on the hard. She was fully stripped and rebuilt, with only the fiberglass hull and deck remaining original. The hull and deck received necessary fiberglass repairs and were reinforced at high-stress points such as chain plates and thruhulls.

The entire HULL & DECK topsides were sanded down to bare fiberglass. After applying a thick layer of gel coat, she was primed and painted with a two-part epoxy system (Interlux Perfection). Below the waterline, the hull was recoated with five layers of epoxy resin, five coats of barrier paint, and three coats of ablative bottom paint. A new rudder was constructed. The new ash and teak interior was professionally built, surpassing the original in both appearance and quality. New bulkheads, chain plates, engine mounts, and mast compression posts were manufactured and installed. All deck and hull attachments are reinforced with heavy-duty stainless steel backing plates.

The ENGINE & MECHANICAL SYSTEMS, including shaft, prop, and generator are all new and professionally installed. The fuel tanks are new, made of heavy-duty aluminum, and the potable water tanks are constructed of food-grade stainless steel. The electrical systems for AC and DC, along with fuel and water plumbing, were professionally installed. There is no wood on the exterior of the yacht; all wood-like materials are synthetic, UV-resistant PVC-based products requiring minimal maintenance.

PERFECT LOVE has completed a SAILS & RIGGING refit including aluminum masts, Schaefer roller-furling booms, stainless steel standing rigging, and running rigging. The sails (main, mizzen, staysail, genoa, and code zero) were manufactured by Mack Sails of Stuart, Florida.

A full set of Raymarine ELECTRONICS, including a hydraulic autopilot, has been installed. Mast-mounted cellular and Wi-Fi antennas provide internet connectivity to the onboard wireless LAN.

VESSEL HISTORY

The Vagabond 47 ketch is a renowned, classic blue-water cruiser designed by the famous Canadian naval architect William Garden. Her form captures the spirit of a time when sailing ships represented the height of technology, and her function embodies the strength, safety, and comfort of a serious ocean-going yacht. Hull number 148 was built in 1975 at the Taiwanese yard of Blue Water Yachts, LLC, for an Austrian gentleman. She was christened Incorrigible and claimed Lucerne, Austria, as her home port. The owner sailed Incorrigible across the Atlantic three times. She was eventually purchased by a Georgia businessman who renamed her Mechaya and sailed her for a few years in the Caribbean. She

sat on the hard at English Harbor in Antigua for five years after his death, until his son started sailing her again. She was essentially abandoned at Tierra Verde Marina in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she was discovered by her 3rd owner.  After nearly three months of negotiations with the owner’s widow, an agreement was reached.  On August 8, 2008, Mechaya was brought to Cincinnati to undergo a major restoration project. She was stripped down to a bare fiberglass hull and deck and completely rebuilt, inside and out. She was re-christened Perfect Love and was launched in 2016. The vessel was sold to another owner

Her current owner purchased Perfect Love in 2025.

PERFECT LOVE was featured in the March/April 2018 edition of Good Old Boat Magazine (page 30). All equipment and systems are fully documented, including complete wiring diagrams (with every wire labeled) and plumbing diagrams (fuel and water).
